This is a soft shell bike transport bag that threads the needle between minimal/convenient packing of the bike and getting it through airline check-in, TSA, etc. It, and more importantly my bike, have gone through (3) multi-leg international trips and one domestic trip, survived fine. Note that airlines set individual policies regarding checked baggage, but generally this does not trigger extra fees as exceeding dimension limits, and depending on your bike might not even exceed the typical 50 pound regular weight limit. The bag and padding/hardware weighs approximately 21 pounds. The bag is designed for "road" bikes, meaning TT bikes with long extensions or MTB with very wide bars might not fit. My largest bike (flown) is 58cm frame height with 44cm wide bars.
I have made one "upgrade" to the design based on my experience using it--I've replaced the standard fixed-mounted plastic casters with removable heavy duty steel casters. While the rear casters are well protected by the case itself, the front casters are exposed to baggage handlers and equipment, and because they're also plastic, break off quite easily. On my first trip, I lost one on the outbound flight, and the other one on the return. After replacing them with the removable casters, I wheel up to check in, remove the front pair, slip them in the side pocket, then reinsert them at the destination baggage claim. I am including a pair of the original plastic casters and the mounting bolts if you'd prefer the original design.
Packing the bike is INCREDIBLY easy with this bag and it's surprisingly well protected. Remove both wheels (each gets a padded bag and plastic shells to protect rotor/cassette), optionally/recommended remove pedals, then mount to the adjustable frame base in the bag which supports both thru-axle and quick-release skewers. Velcro straps keep everything from rocking. Absolutely no need to remove or adjust bar/stem (and there are special pads for shifters). I recommend dismounting the rear derailleur and leaving it in a cocoon inside the frame even though there's a plastic shell specifically protecting that area - I just don't trust airlines and the minor effort to dis/remount the derailleur which eliminates risk of a bent hanger bracket seems well worth it.
